A majority of simulation methods that have been used in the past, involve the placement of geometric shapes at a section of the wind tunnel; as the air flows around these geometries positioned at a pre-defined spacing, the atmospheric boundary layer is generated. This report studies a method named Cowdrey's, and analyzes its application in a wind tunnel with a contracted inlet. Through this method, rods are installed in a wind tunnel to measure the profile of an atmospheric boundary layer. The project analyzes a procedure for calculating the number, spacing and diameter of the rods installed at the inlet and settling chamber, and graphs the expected profile on placing the rods. On a grand scheme, this project is required for wind tunnel testing, to estimate the wind loads acting on a ship model that will further impact its performance and safe operating envelope.
