Description

In 2003 NASA Glenn Research Center awarded an 18 month, $7.92 million grant to Florida universities for hydrogen research. This program teams researchers from Florida universities with NASA Glenn and NASA Kennedy to form a powerful partnership.

The research program at the University of Florida focuses on the following areas:

o New and improved hydrogen production processes

o Hydrogen leak detection via laser instrumentation o Hydrogen leak detection via distributed micro-sensors

o Terrestrial and in-space cryogenic transport and storage

o High energy densified materials for hydrogen storage

o New propellants and cryofuels

o Education and outreach activities

A mobile demonstration unit is being built for one of the hydrogen production processes for testing and education and is planned to be demonstrated at or near KSC in the future.
