Captain Lionel "Steve" Stephan attended the Embry-Riddle Flying School in 1927 and graduated in 1928. His flying career spanned 40 years of commercial aviation with American Airlines. In 1928, he made his solo flight in a WACO 10 OX5 and began transporting the mail. He retired flying Boeing 707's with well over 35,000 hours. Lionel Stephan is the longest lived alumni of Embry-Riddle. He played on E-R's first basketball team. His diploma is reproduced in the book "The Sky is Home".
