Stuart Cox in Uniform

Dr Stuart James Cox was born on April 1, 1923, and ‘handed in his logbook’ on October 16, 2016. He was a member of Course 11, #5BFTS at Clewiston from September 25, 1942, to April 8, 1943.

After Clewiston, Stuart was posted to several airfields in the UK, one being Barrow in Furness where he met and married Eithne Forman, a Wren, in August 1944. Their son Robert (Bob) was born in December 1945 and their daughter, Amanda (Mandi), in 1950.

Stuart qualified as a doctor in 1953 and became a GP in Gillingham, Kent, until retiring in 1980.

He was a local councillor, and later Chairman of Kent County Council. He was a JP, Chairman of Kent Police, Fire Service and Health Authority at various times before fully retiring. His interests Included golf and sailing; he was Commodore of the Medway Yacht Club.

Stuart wrote a brief history of his life and the extract that he wrote about his time in the RAF is the main document in this archive which also includes a number of photographs.
