This study proposes to investigate strategies to mitigate hand injuries in the aging workforce within aviation maintenance, where physical demands and repetitive tasks pose significant risks. Research emphasizes the importance of proactive approaches; however, the latent factors that cause hand injuries remain unexplored. This study aims to address this gap by conducting a case study, utilizing qualitative data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Incident Reporting database, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses survey, as well as, previous studies. This research will investigate the contributing factors and underlying hazards associated with these incidents, with a focus on reducing injury severity in maintenance activities and improving reporting culture. The findings will provide insight across other industries contributing to the continuous improvement of safety culture.
