Abstract

This editorial - African leaders; heed Mandela's words to Mugabe, by a staff writer for The Monitor of Uganda - was originally published on October 3, 2000. The editorial discusses the tendency of African rulers to attempt to retain their respective grips on power after being voted out of office, prolonging bad governance. The author notes that Nelson Mandela of South Africa, a noted exception to this practice, advised Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe to retire.
