Abstract
The D2-EB team supports the Mountain Spirit program with a team of eight undergraduate students. The purpose of the Mountain Spirit program is to promote rocketry on campus and educate undergraduate students in the Rocket Development Lab (RDL) through hands-on opportunities. In addition, the Mountain Spirit program aims to launch a single stage liquid flight vehicle into space. This team is developing a liquid bipropellant flight vehicle called "Deneb 2 Electric Boogaloo (D2-EB)." D2-EB is the second step in Mountain Spirit's four-step process that will culminate in the space-shot vehicle. The D2-EB team aims to design, build, and fly D2-EB to an altitude goal of 100,000 feet in altitude while competing in the Dollar Per Foot Challenge held by Friends of Amateur Rocketry. This follows the objectives of the previous flight vehicle, Deneb, that was flown by Cygnus Suborbitals. As the previous flight vehicle was not recovered, the overarching goal of D2-EB is to fly to at least 48,000 feet and recover the vehicle in tact. In achieving this, D2-EB will prove that Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the RDL can build and fly a high-performance liquid flight vehicle that can be recovered. The knowledge gained from this project will be documented and passed down to the students developing the next Mountain Spirit vehicle. In addition, the earnings from the competition will be utilized to financially support the Mountain Spirit program in its future developments.
