Abstract

NextGen is a series of FAA sponsored programs focused on evolving the National Airspace System (NAS) to safely increase efficiencies and capacity. These programs represent an evolution from a ground-based system of air traffic control to a satellite-based system of air traffic management. NextGen is an evolutionary transformative change in the management and operation of how we fly. NextGen enhances safety, reliability, reduces delays, expands air traffic capacity, saves fuel and mitigates aviation’s impact on the environment.

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University is a trusted NextGen partner with an 8 year legacy and a 4 year Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) contract extension until 2018 to lead the Florida NextGen Test Bed (FTB). The Test bed conducts research, rapid prototyping and demonstrations of emerging technologies for Air Traffic Management domestically and internationally. This OTA can be used by the Space Traffic Management community to conduct related prototype, integration and demonstration activities. The Florida Test Bed’s results using existing processes, contracts, resources and talents providing results to our National Airspace and our International Partners can be readily leveraged for the complex challenges facing STM.
