Biography

Adrian Enright trained as an air traffic controller in the UK before joining Eurocontrol at the Maastricht centre. As an ATM instructor with Eurocontrol in Luxembourg Adrian went on to develop the PELA test in aviation English language proficiency designed specifically for trainee controllers. In 2000 he joined ICAO’s PRICE SG developing SARPs impacting on aeronautical communications and thereafter the ICAO Rating Scale and Holistic Descriptors that today are the Language Proficiency Requirements. In 2004 Adrian, as project manager, started development of the Eurocontrol ELPAC test for air traffic controllers – the only test to date that has ICAO compliance with LPRs. Since retirement from Eurocontrol (2011) Adrian continues his involvement in aviation English as a Vice-President of ICAEA and additionally researches maritime communications for an international ship management company.
