Biography
James E. Sulton, III has been an adjunct professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide for nearly ten years. He holds a BS in Aerospace Studies and an MS in Aeronautics from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University. Dr. Sulton received his doctorate degree in educational leadership, administration, and policy from Pepperdine University at the age of 26. Prior to assuming roles with ERAU, he led Oakland Aviation High School, developed the aviation curriculum for the Southern California Regional Occupational Center, and founded AviaitonEd, an organization focused on exposing at–risk youth to aviation careers. Dr. Sulton lectures frequently about the importance of education and career opportunities for disadvantaged youth in the field.
Teaching Philosophy
All adult and adolescent learners are unique and need a stimulating educational environment where they can grow intellectually, emotionally and socially. My mission is to create an atmosphere where all students can meet their full potential. I provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas, take risk and strive to make an impact by being mindful lifelong learners. To accomplish this, five essential elements must be adhered to: (1) my role is to facilitate and guide student learning; (2) students must have access to visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning activities that trigger their creativity; (3) students must have choices that allow their curiosity to direct their learning; (4) students require a safe space to practice skills; and (5) technology must be appropriately leveraged into the learning experience.
