The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) sponsors student conferences in each AIAA Region as a means to encourage students in aerospace-related fields to discuss research, exchange knowledge, and generate interest in the field of aerospace engineering. The southeastern region includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
The AIAA Southeastern Regional Student Conference is a technical and oral paper competition for undergraduate and graduate students of all majors! Attendees connect with professionals in the aerospace industry and also meet other like-minded students from throughout the southeastern United States who share similar interests. Students have their papers and presentations judged by professionals from the region, with cash prizes conferred for top scores in various categories. First-place winners in the Undergraduate, Masters, and Team categories are also offered a chance to compete in the following year’s International Student Conference against the winners from the other Regions of AIAA. The International Student Conference has for several years has taken place in January in conjunction with the AIAA SciTech Forum, and those students invited to compete are provided with flight, lodging, and most expenses paid.
