Chng, Lawrence

Biography

Mr Lawrence Chng is the former Principal Specialist Emergency Preparedness of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and is currently an Adjunct Lecturer at the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA). He started his career as a Flight Engineer with Singapore Airlines (SIA) more than 40 years ago. During his last 15 years with the airline, he assumed the critical role of Crisis Manager for the SIA Group and had responded to the crashes of SilkAir MI 185 and SIA SQ006 and several mass disruptions to flights. During his stint in CAAS, he had responded to the closure of a terminal, an aircraft crash during Airshow, drone intrusion at the airport and had managed Border Health Control in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Chng has served as the Chairman of the Star Alliance and Association of Asia Pacific Airlines Emergency Response Working Groups. He had trained hundreds of key appointment holders and care givers in both the SIA Group and CAAS, and is currently conducting a number of crisis management programmes at SAA.
