Biography

Banna secured a post graduate scholarship and completed his MPhil in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management in 1997. He then joined BOC Edwards, UK –a gases and vacuum equipment sales and services company as Manufacturing Engineer-Asia in-charge for expansion projects in Asia. In this role, he created capital investment proposals and developed new facilities for sales and service businesses in Taiwan, China, Korea and Singapore. He was instrumental in procurement of capital equipment, transfer of technology and best business practices from UK, USA and Japan into Asian business units.

Banna was promoted to Operations Manager in-charge of BOC Edwards services, warehouse and logistics operations supporting South East Asia, Australasia and India. During this period, he had driven operational excellence initiatives in the service business. His team achieved BOC Edwards global innovation award for process re-engineering. His team also secured Kaizen bronze medal competing with BOC Edwards worldwide teams in continuous improvement projects. He managed successfully several cost saving projects in procurement, inventory management and business transformation projects during economic downturns in Asia. During this period, he was project lead for service business process reengineering and rolling out the company wide ERP implementation in South East Asia for BOC Edwards. For his contributions he received the company’s full sponsorship to complete the PG Diploma in Business Administration in Warwick Business School in UK.

Banna was inducted into GMR Airports Group, India in 2008 as Associate General Manager in-charge for business transformation unit for airports in New Delhi and Hyderabad. He was instrumental in working with airport development team for bidding new projects and procurement of capital equipment. He worked with airport services team to transform processes towards business excellence and implement service excellence initiatives. He contributed to the sustained GMR partnership relationships of airport development and service teams in Turkey and Malaysia airports. After coming back to Singapore in 2009, he worked a Senior General Manager for Sourcing in Sun Singapore Pte Ltd, a whole traders of metals and commodities. He contributed significantly in establishing the supplier base, streamlining the supply chain processes. He then got the opportunity in 2011 as a senior lecturer in Aviation Management in Republic Polytechnic, Singapore. He developed course material for the modules on airport planning and airline operations. He was instrumental in setting-up Aviation and Aerospace Solutions Centre in School of Engineering, Republic Polytechnic. Then he was appointed as Senior Manager in 2017 to head this solutions centre.

Banna is active in consultancy projects from proposals to implementation. His focus is mainly on productivity improvement, operations excellence and business transformation through process innovation, technology enablement and data analytics. He received two times the innovative project awards for his consultancy projects and published in Singapore media. He is currently pursuing PhD study at Singapore University of Social Sciences.
