Description
The Worldwide Department of Flight will be demonstrating the capability to perform remote split operations (RSO) during the ERAU Aviation Week program. The flights will take place in a sparsely populated area near Mt. Home, ID with a DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual and the UgCS ground control station (GCS) software. The flight objective is focused on search and rescue where the displaced pilot (not to be confused with the RPIC) will interact with the RPIC in an effort to find a missing individual. The live video will stream from either the RGB or infrared camera on the aircraft, depending on mission requirements. The GCS information will be broadcast through the Zoom platform with the RPIC retaining full control of the software at all times.
In accordance with 14 CFR Part 107 section 107.31, the VO will remain within visual line of sight (VLOS) of the aircraft fulfilling the requirements set forth in 107.31 (b). The remote pilot in command (RPIC) and visual observer (VO), both of whom are current FAA Part 107 certified, will remain within VLOS of the aircraft at all times ensuring deconfliction from other aircraft and avoiding flight over any non-participating individuals. The RPIC will maintain a direct communications link with the aircraft at all times through the DJI remote controller. The automated flight route may be manipulated by the displaced pilot to emphasize academic and operational procedures and lessons.
