Call for Proposals

Overview

The Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety (BCAAS) invites applications from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University faculty and students for research projects to be presented at the Third Annual BCAAS Safety Research Symposium. The event will be held at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus, with the option for virtual participation, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Submissions

We welcome proposals in either of the following categories:

Research Posters

Research poster proposals may be submitted for ongoing or completed projects. Posters will be presented during the symposium’s poster session and presenters are expected to be on-site for the duration of the session. Posters may address any topic related to aviation and aerospace safety. Inter-disciplinary and cross-college proposals are especially encouraged. If accepted, the mandatory deadline to submit your research poster to BCAAS is December 21, 2025.

Research Roundtable Presentations

Research roundtable presentation proposals may be submitted for ongoing or completed projects. These presentations will take place throughout the day and may be delivered on-site or virtually. Presentations will last 15 minutes and be primarily discussion-based, with the opportunity for extensive audience participation. Submissions are particularly sought in the area of data analytics and data science applications in aviation safety. Inter-disciplinary and cross-college proposals are especially encouraged. If accepted, the mandatory deadline to submit your research roundtable presentation slides to BCAAS is January 11, 2026. Additional example topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Controlled flight into terrain
  • Mid-air and ground collision avoidance
  • Loss of control – inflight
  • Runway incursion/excursion
  • Safet Management Systems
  • Human performance
  • Aeromedical factors
  • Integration of new entrants to the National Airspace System
  • System resilience
  • AI in safety-critical systems
  • Safety culture
  • Commercial space operations and spaceport safety
  • Aviation safety policy and regulation
  • Environmental and weather impact mitigation
  • Aircraft safety assurance.

Submission Requirements

For each proposal, applicants will be asked to provide a project title, 350-word abstract, and two questions they plan to ask audience members to solicit feedback on their projects.

Timeline

Submissions will open at 8 a.m. ET on Monday, September 8, 2025, and will close at 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Notifications of acceptance will be made by Friday, November 14, 2025.
