These images have been scanned from Norman Whisler’s photograph album by his son, Dave. Except for one group photograph taken before he went to 5BFTS, all the images are from the time Norman was at 5BFTS. They show Riddle Field, the cadets at work and play, their accommodation and a variety of airplanes on the ground and in the air. The plane used for Primary training was the Stearman PT-17 and the plane used for Basic and Advanced training was the North American Aviation AT-6 (known to the RAF as the Harvard and Americans as the Texan). By the time, Norman was at 5BFTS, the airplane code on the fuselage had changed from numbers to letters, and these are clearly visible in Norman’s photographs.
