Abstract
Linalool and linalyl acetate are naturally occurring monoterpenes found in lavender, they are known for their distinct aroma and biological properties. Linalool has the chemical formula of C₁₀H₁₈O and is a monoterpene alcohol, while linalyl acetate has the chemical formula of C₁₂H₂₀O₂ and is linalool’s acetate ester. These compounds have been widely studied for their anti-inflammatory properties, studies have indicated that these compounds influence inflammatory pathways, decrease inflammatory-associated molecules, and enhance the production of protective proteins. Linalool exhibits anti-inflammatory properties by regulating cytokine production and reducing oxidative stress, whereas linalyl acetate acts as a precursor to linalool, providing continuous anti-inflammatory benefits. These compounds have the ability to reduce inflammation and relieve discomfort, making them beneficial for natural therapeutic use.
Did this research project receive funding support (Spark, SURF, Research Abroad, Student Internal Grants, Collaborative, Climbing, or Ignite Grants) from the Office of Undergraduate Research?
