Abstract
Please stop by the following lab anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn more about what they have to offer!
A design studio and two vehicle development bays make the High Performance Vehicle Laboratory the hub of undergraduate SAE motorsports activity at ERAU.
Design of vehicles is performed by students on fourteen (14) computer workstations with access to the latest engineering design tools, networked to the University’s supercomputer in the design studio.
Currently, the world’s only all-female motorsports team (ERAU’s Women’s Baja SAE Team) occupies one design bay, while the Embry-Riddle Formula SAE team dubbed ERAU Motorsports occupies the other.
In addition to housing these two student-driven competition teams, the laboratory supports graduate and undergraduate research, including several IGNITE research grants and grants from other sources dealing with projects related to advanced materials, vehicle dynamics, engines and alternative fuels, and aerodynamics.
Industry-standard design software tools include:
- Vehicle Dynamics: OptimumG, OptimumLap, Lotus Shark
- Computer Aided Design (CAD): CATIA, SolidWorks
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA): ANSYS, NASTRAN
- Topology Optimization: Altair INSPIRE
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): Fluent, Star CCM+
- Manufacturing: SolidCAM, MasterCAM
