Abstract

This project aims to model the behavior of celestial objects through code written in MATLAB and Julia. The software developed by this project is intended to be used as a tool in the field of astrodynamics for use in mission planning and future research. Versions of the software are developed in both MATLAB and Julia to assess the accuracy and efficiency of the programs. The final goal is to develop a library of functions in Julia that are computationally faster than MATLAB. Current research will implement Polyhedron Gravitational modeling and Geometric Albedo functions into the Julia and MATLAB programs. The Polyhedron Gravitational modeling is intended to provide an accurate analysis of the gravitational attraction of nonspherical bodies such as asteroids, comets, and small moons. The Geometric Albedo is the ratio of a body’s brightness referenced at a zero phase angle to that of a perfectly reflective and ideally flat disk, and can be used to estimate of the size of a celestial body by analyzing its thermal history.
