Abstract

The researchers’ goal was to design a project implemented in Fall 2018 which studies the effect of using a Helicopter Basic Aircrew Training Device (BATD) on helicopter flight student progression and retention. Measuring the efficacy of the BATD will allow ERAU to determine the need for purchase of additional BATDs in the future. The design included the methodology and preparation of all of the materials required to undertake the Fall project. This included a student focus group design, student survey design, student progress tracker, BATD utilization tracker, data analysis plan, design and testing of the practical skills to be practiced in the BATD (to include task, objective and completion standards), aircraft checklists and BATD scenario set up checklists.
