What were you doing on 9/11? (Or, What was your interviewee doing on 9/11?)

On 11 Sep 2001 I was serving as the Airport Manager at Reagan National (DCA). Our ARFF were primary respondents to the Pentagon, and I was tasked with securing the airport in the wake of the attacks.

How did 9/11 affect you personally and or professionally?

Too much to capture in a short statement, but in sum it confirmed the need for team strength, creativity, flexibility, focused decision-making, hard work, and optimism.

What do you want future generations of professionals, particularly those going into your field, to know about 9/11?

Humanity is fundamentally good and will always prevail over evil, no matter how dreaded or dire the situation may seem.

On 9/11, what sector were you (OR your interviewee) in?

Airlines, Not a pilot

On 9/11 what was your (OR your interviewee’s) occupation? (optional)

Airport Manager at DCA
