Description
From even limited exposure to the techniques of remote sensing, the value of the application of this tool to the preservation and restoration of environmental quality is obvious. In a report to the Cabinet of Florida a panel of scientists used photographs furnished by Kennedy Space Center to demonstrate some of the effects of the incursion of Canal-38 into the Kissimmee River basin and to depict an infestation of the aquatic weed (hydrilla) in an area of Lake Okeechobee : (1) color shot taken from a Gemini 12 Satellite; (2) infrared imagery; (3) low-altitude infrared color.
The synoptic overview provided by high altitude monitoring will afford basic information so necessary in the application of the vital interdisciplinary approach to ecosystem management.
