Description

This paper will primarily address and define for the Shuttle Vehicle elements; the basic aspects of ground turnaround operations being developed by the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The current baseline approach to ground operations will be outlined including a discussion of the planned turnaround evolution from the Development Phase of the Program to the Operational Phase. Typical turnaround activities for each element; e.g., Orbiter, External Tank, Solid Rocket Booster, will be described and will include the integration of the elements up to launch. A brief description of the major KSC facilities will be included for clarification of the turnaround process.
