The Wessel Project for the Arts is seeking proposals from students who require funding to create visual works of art to be showcased in the Department of Humanities and Communication on the Daytona Beach campus. Finished artwork must be available for display for at least one year. Recipients will also receive automatic acceptance to the 6th Annual Maverick Art Festival on Thursday, April 11, 2024, and inclusion in the new digital repository where artists may display and sell their work. The proposed works of art should be based on the theme of science and technology. We aim to support art that sparks conversations and tell stories about science and technology of the past, present, and future.

The theme of science and technology may be interpreted broadly. Generally, it refers to the pursuit of knowledge and the application of that knowledge to our lives. The theme is asking us to envision the future shaped by scientific and technological progress and the profound implications of our innovations.

Some examples of projects include, but are not limited to, artistic microscopy, bio art, digital landscapes of the future, scientific phenomena in paint, neural network generated art, augmented reality art, astrophotography, time lapse photography, AI-assisted portraits, techno-cubism, historical visualizations, paintings of old technology, and data visualization.

Artwork must be no larger than 36”x36” and suitable for display on a wall.

Deadline to submit proposals: 5:00 pm on Friday, January 26, 2024
