This year the Air Race Classic marks the organization's 40th year of racing competition. To commemorate this milestone, the 2016 race salutes our college and university teams by stopping at airports that are near to or affiliated with an aviation program:
- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is our host at both the Start in Prescott, AZ and the Terminus in Daytona Beach, FL.
- ERAU Worldwide offers courses at Kirtland Air Force Base, located in Albuquerque, NM
- Midland College is in Midland, TX
- Texas State Technical College is in Waco, TX
- Henderson State University is in Arkadelphia, AR
- University of Central Missouri is in Warrensburg, MO
- Institute of Aviation at Parkland College is located near Champaign/Urbana, IL
- Middle Tennessee State University is in Murfreesboro, TN
- South Georgia Technical College is in Americus, GA
