Session 3: Additive Manufacturing (aka 3D Printing) for Aerospace/Aviation

Presenter Information

Chua Chee Kai

Synopsis

Since the first commercial 3D printer appeared in 1998, Additive Manufacturing (aka 3D Printing) has made inroads into many industries and applications. Aerospace is the leading pioneer industry that other industries look to for glimpse of what is new on the horizon. The presentation will introduce two additive manufacturing technologies – Powder Bed Fusion and Directed Energy Deposition. It will also illustrate some examples from aerospace heavyweights, such as GE and Boeing, and discuss two important trends for additive manufacturing - design for additive manufacturing and standardization of systems.
