We sold one account in Canada. The company was located at Chatham, Ontario and when their experemental plane was built they asked us to come over and see it. So one morning Paul Wilcox and I together with Pat, who went for the ride, took off. Pat posed at the controls before we left and was a proud boy.

We had a fine trip to Chatham crossing the Detroit River just above Belle Isle and continuing up the Canadian shore until we reached our destination. We were greeted by the company engineer and inspected the plane.

It was a sturdy biplane of conventional design and Paul asked to fly it. He clambered in and took off, circling the field several times and putting the ship through its paces.

After some talk about future commitments we had lunch and then took off for our home port of Detroit.

Not every account proved to be a winner. Here was a case in point. A small aircraft company was bent on buildinga flying boat for sportsmen’s use. They finally took an engine on consignment and installed it. When the machine was ready to fly, it would not take off because the hull design was so bad it that would not plane out of the water. The engine functioned perfectly but the design didn’t. Needless to say that the company failed and we were out an engine.

Among the favorites with the huge crowd was the First Pursuit Squadron from Selfridge Field. An eighteen ship formation was represented.
