Abstract

One of the most famous poems to be written in WWI, this poem examines the reality of war. The title is a reference to Roman poet Horace: “It is sweet and fitting to die for one’s country.”

Wilfred Owen died at only 25 in action, making his examination of war, life and death particularly poignant. Poem originally published in Poems in 1921.
