Abstract
The F-33 Banshee is a next-generation carrier-based multirole strike fighter designed to replace the aging F/A-18 fleet while addressing challenges of stealth, performance, and cost. Emphasizing low observability, high maneuverability, and operational flexibility, it combines proven propulsion with an aerodynamically efficient airframe. The configuration—mid-level wings, twin Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 engines, twin vertical stabilizers, and forward top-mounted inlets—was selected to optimize stealth, control, and carrier compatibility. Achieving a thrust-to-weight ratio of 1.04 in afterburner and a wing loading of 101.5 lb/ft², the Banshee offers superior agility and safe carrier approach speeds below 145 knots. Sensitivity studies identified an aspect ratio near 2.66 as optimal, yielding a lift-to-drag ratio of approximately 8.0 and balancing efficiency with maneuverability. With its modular ordnance system and emphasis on reliability and maintainability, the F-33 Banshee represents a costeffective, capable solution for the Navy’s next-generation strike fighter needs.
