Abstract

In today's world, a car, truck, van, bus, or even bike are the primary modes of transportation in America. According to Bloomberg City Lab, about 88% of Americans own a car. So road safety in America is a very large priority and should not be taken lightly. In my poster for Discovery Day, I’ll be doing my poster on Road Safety in Rural Environments. National Geographic says that a rural environment is,” An open swath of land that has few homes or other buildings, and not very many people” This means that there are roads that are cut off from the city and get less care than other roads do. Some of the problems that arise from this are; less lighting, EMS response times, road maintenance, smaller roads, lower oversight & funding, etc.. On my poster I will give data and show some of the problems that the city ignores with rural environments and also little things I believe can counteract some of those problems.

Did this research project receive funding support (Spark, SURF, Research Abroad, Student Internal Grants, Collaborative, Climbing, or Ignite Grants) from the Office of Undergraduate Research?

Yes, Spark Grant
