Abstract
As the aerospace industry grows, CubeSats have proven to be one of the most reliable and inexpensive methods of conducting orbital research and offering spacecraft design experience to students and hobbyists. This project has designed and manufactured a 1U, 3U, and 6U CubeSat testbed for autonomous control systems utilizing reaction wheels. The testbed will include three reaction wheels; each mounted to its own respective axis to allow for attitude control in three degrees of freedom. In addition to designing the hardware and electronics for each CubeSat, control systems will be derived and applied to each testbed to ensure each system functions properly. The final goal of the CubeSat testbed is to be integrated into a website where anyone can upload their own control algorithm and watch a live stream of how their algorithm performs on hardware in real time. This system is embedded in the Easy Controls website and will be an example of control scripts that users can use to guide them as they learn how to apply spacecraft controls.
Did this research project receive funding support (Spark, SURF, Research Abroad, Student Internal Grants, Collaborative, Climbing, or Ignite Grants) from the Office of Undergraduate Research?
Yes, Ignite Grant
