Abstract

The BK-2 is a hybrid engine designed to operate as a Jet/Scram/Rocket engine. Figure 1 is a conceptual illustration derived from Techlaboratories’ YouTube Video on the SR-71. The BK-2 engine is designed similarly to Pratt & Whitney J58 engine. The Pratt & Whitney J58 engine is a Ramjet engine developed to power the SR-71 to great altitudes, speeds, and under great conditions which include High Temp. These are similar conditions to what the BK-2 will experience. For this undergraduate research, we are using software programs such as CATIA and Matlab to show how this engine operates. First, we must design the model in CATIA, and use a 3D printer to develop a prototype of the engine. We hope to build this engine and perform an experimental investigation that will include research, construction, and results.

Did this research project receive funding support (Spark, SURF, Research Abroad, Student Internal Grants, Collaborative, Climbing, or Ignite Grants) from the Office of Undergraduate Research?
