Day 2 - A2: Infrastructure: Justin Thames
Justin Thames joined TECO Energy in February of 2023. He previously worked for 12 years with the Florida Institute of CPAs (FICPA), last serving as Chief External Affairs Officer. In his role with TECO, Thames oversees all aspects of public policy, advocacy, and governmental affairs before the legislative and executive branches of the state.
During his time with the FICPA, he worked in a number of policy areas on behalf of the CPA profession: tax, state and local government reporting, condominium association financial reporting, and countless CPA licensing issues. He also represented the organization before the Florida Board of Accountancy, the regulatory board responsible for the licensure and oversight of more than 30,000 licensed CPAs. Additionally, Thames served as Deputy-Treasurer and was responsible for operations of the four Florida CPA Political Action Committees.
Thames is a graduate of the Leadership Florida Connect Program and the Florida TaxWatch Citizenship Institute. He is a Board member of the Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists and has received his Designated Professional Lobbyist (DPL) designation. He represents TECO as a member of the Florida Chamber Foundation Community Development Partnership Council, the Florida TaxWatch Tax Council, and the Associated Industries of Florida Tax and Energy Councils.
He serves as Board member of the American Red Cross – Capital Area Chapter, Conservation Florida and is a graduate of Florida State University.
