The Extended Reality (XR) Lab, located in the heart of the College of Aviation, delivers high fidelity virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and augmented reality (AR) simulations directly to classrooms. XR headsets augment the senses, allowing users to interact seamlessly with virtual objects as if they were real. The XR Lab team uses technology to develop, research, and deploy exciting new training experiences that help prepare the next generation of aviation professionals to enter the workforce. We enable students to complete maintenance on virtual parts, perform virtual pre-flight checks on aircraft, and even visit the International Space Station without leaving Earth. On this virtual tour, you’ll learn about the Cessna 172 Preflight VR application, and how we use it to train students to preflight before they ever step out onto the flight line.
