Abstract
Although the prime science objectives of the MMS mission are related to magnetic reconnection and the how it effects the Earth’s magnetosphere, the science return of the mission can be greatly enhanced when we consider MMS to be another (or four) in-situ data points in the HSO. In this talk I’ll discuss how MMS can be used as a one-of-a-kind tool to study small-scale particle distributions in coronal mass ejections (CMEs), to study solar energetic particle cutoff rigidities, and as a supplement to other data sets such as PSP, SolO, STEREO, ACE, and GOES. I’ll highlight a few CMEs that MMS observed upstream of the bow shock during the most recent dayside season such as the event in early November 2021 and January 2022. This talk will highlight how the unique spacing and instrumentation of the MMS mission can contribute to a wide variety of space plasma physics.
