Abstract

The compilation of poems: "Would You Silence the Flap of a Single Butterfly’s Wings?" was written as a way to cope with and process a series of difficult situations that were experienced in the author’s past. An experience where discrimination and silencing were commonplace. When trying to express her experience, the easiest way to talk about it with others was to compare herself to a butterfly with her wings being tied down. She found that her journey was very similar to that of a butterfly’s journey and that when comparing the two, it was also easier for others to relate. No matter how difficult a butterfly’s journey, they persevere and continue, as did she. With her words, she hopes that others might find comfort and positivity in her experiences and journey, as well as appreciate the journey that a butterfly takes no matter the challenges. The poems can be enjoyed together or separately, as they are in no particular order.
