Abstract

The propeller spun in a hypnotic blur, the sun glinting off the polished cowling of the Piper Archer II. I sat on the left seat, my hands damp against the yoke, checklist crumpled slightly in my lap. “Mixture rich. Throttle set. Brakes... off.” My voice was steadier than I expected, though my heart raced ahead of the aircraft and there the journey began from flying tiny planes to huge ones.
