    Biography

    Alan Orr is an Aviation English Specialist at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University-Worldwide. His main initiatives include developing the curricula for and teaching online and in-person aviation English courses. These courses are tailored to student pilots and air traffic controllers who are non-native English speakers. Mr. Orr’s other projects include providing English language teacher training to non-native English speaking air traffic controllers and assisting with the English for Flight Training Assessment™, an assessment tool created to screen non-native English speaking students before they enter flight training.

    Mr. Orr has a background in instructional design, distance learning, and language assessment. Prior to coming to ERAU-W, he taught, developed curricula, and reviewed assessments at institutions of higher education in Turkey and Thailand. Alan earned his Master of Arts degrees in English and Teaching English as a Second Language from Northern Arizona University where he taught as a part-time instructor. An avid learner, Mr. Orr recently took ground school as he works toward earning a Private Pilot License.
