Abstract
This project’s ablative combustion chamber is a low cost chamber made of silica fiber and phenolic resin. It is designed to erode, drawing heat away from the structure of the chamber walls while the engine is firing. This project will conduct six experiments with a fifteen degree difference in composite lay-up angles. The goal is to find the optimal angle of the silica fiber and drastically reduce the erosion rates, leading to a more consistent throat diameter of the chamber, improving overall performance. The research done will improve firing time for rockets on campus by creating a cost efficient chamber that will be able to last longer than previous chambers.
