Personal Reflection

What were you doing on 9/11? (Or, What was your interviewee doing on 9/11?)

I was on board the USS Enterprise, CVN-65, in the Indian Ocean.

How did 9/11 affect you personally and or professionally?

Professionally, I was on a ship that was turned around to help begin the planning and opening stages of Operation Enduring Freedom. Post-Military Professional life, I saw a tightening up of both security requirements and job entry requirements into the aviation fields. This made it more difficult to find a good fit for a job.

What do you want future generations of professionals, particularly those going into your field, to know about 9/11?

The field that I was in at the time of 9/11 was the military. It will always be affected by conflict, attacks, and wars. The field I am in since I left the military, is the aerospace manufacturing field. It was massively affected, almost in a similar way that the COVID-19 pandemic affected it: loss of orders, loss of jobs, shuttering of smaller manufacturers, and distribution elements. These are things that one has to be ready for working in some critical fields that could be affected by war.
