Presentation Description/Abstract
This presentation is for a machine created by the Recycling Department of the ERAU Makerspace. This machine recycles plastic bottles into filament for 3D printing. It was created to reduce the amount of plastic waste on campus, as well as reduce the costs of the Makerspace for plastic filament. The plastic bottles are prepped and cut into strands that are then fed through a heated nozzle, which melts and forms the plastic into a strand that is fit for being used in a 3D printer. Future plans for this project include obtaining an industrial plastic recycler, which would be capable of grinding up all sorts of plastic waste and extruding it into usable filament.
