Synopsis

Pilots are ‘high value’ assets with the responsibility for the safety of your passengers and aircraft. The costs of a major incident and the associated loss of revenue highlight the need to get it right, i.e. to develop a scientific holistic approach to detect not just abilities but also mental health issues. The recent Germanwings accident and subsequent EASA regulatory changes highlight the need to address these threats to safety and security within the challenges of modern aviation. What are those and how do we address the day to date threats and how to deal with the growing ‘Black Swan’ events will be discussed.

Questions that will be raised within the session (2-3 bullet points):

  • EASA outlook – EASA passed the latest regulation (in force from July 2018) after the German wing accident, we will cover how it addressed the mental health issues and how it effect EU based operators.
  • Resilience – coping with the challenges of stress
  • A future outlook on data driven checks based in multi-cultural
