Abstract/Description
In 2002, Number 5 BFTS Association donated a grove of five birch trees (two English and three American) and a plaque, which honours the cadets who trained as pilots at 5BFTS, to the new National Memorial Arboretum. The trees acted as a gateway to the RAF Wing which contains a number of trees many dedicated to an RAF squadron. In 2006, Number 1 BFTS Association donated a tree, plaque and bench which stand near the 5BFTS grove. In 2024, with the agreement of 5BFTS Association members, a plaque, which honours cadets who trained as pilots at Number 4 BFTS, was dedicated at the NMA and now stands by one of the birch trees in the grove. This video briefly tells the story of the original donation and the 2024 plaque.
