Abstract

Globalization is process by which people of the world are made into a single society and function (Button, 2008). Globalization is a process that combines economic, technological, socio-cultural, and political forces; and the aviation industry provides critical inputs into this process. According to a report from the Air Transport Action Group, the aviation industry supports more than 65 million jobs worldwide and accounts for $2.7 trillion in global GDP (ATAG, 2021). Understanding the impact of globalization on this significant industry is paramount in maintaining various social and economic benefits. This study explores the role of globalization and its impact on the airline industry through an extensive literature review. Major impacts identified are on the areas of security, traffic/demand of travel, markets, communities offering international travel, and rule/regulations. The work-in-progress study concludes by offering recommendations for practitioners, policymakers, and airline management in dealing with globalization impacts.
