Executive Summary

A lively and living study environment is needed on campus, I propose to set up aeroponic systems across the campus, places such as study rooms, UC, Doolittle hall, COAS should all have them.

Aeroponic systems are similar to hydroponics, just that it uses less energy and water. It waters the plants roots directly with mist. A system could be stacked up, using less space and planting more greens. Typical plants are herbs and leafy greens. The whole system is easy to manage and maintain, it uses no soil or pesticides. The plants are grown in rockwool, and only nutritions are added into the water for the plants needs. Lighting control simulates the natural growth environment, and the whole system is indoor friendly.

Benefits for an aeroponic system on campus are, 1.Creates a pleasant environment. 2.Raises environmental awareness. 3.Filters indoor air. 4.The plants are edible. 5.Easy to maintain, modular build. 3D printed parts.

I see this aeroponics system in riddle as a symbol of growth. It has big potentials, and will bring another aspect into riddle, a not so mechanical, but relates a lot to engineering. Leaf riddle, bringing plants closer.
