Embry-Riddle is one of 12 North American universities tasked with re-engineering a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer into a connected and automated hybrid vehicle as part of the four-year EcoCAR Mobility Challenge. The student team works to tear down the stock vehicle and rebuild it with a student-designed hybrid power train and semi-autonomous functionality. EcoCAR offers participants, ranging from first-year to graduate-level students, access to industry-level tools, training, and exposure with career connected learning and career fairs. The competition is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, General Motors, Mathworks, and Managed by the Argonne National Laboratory
