Abstract

The International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY) indicted Bosnian Serb leaders, Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic for genocide and crimes against humanity in the Bosnian municipalities i 1992. The indictment was issued in July 1995, just days after the massacre of over 8,000 men and boys in Srebrenica. Yet, despite a number of genocidal indictment since then, ICTY convictions on that count are confined to Srebrenica. Why is this so, and how have genocidal convictions, or the absence thereof, impacted on the survivors?
