Abstract
Magnetic reconnection is ubiquitous throughout the solar system, and plays a fundamental role in the transport of mass and energy in planetary magnetospheres. The scales at which reconnection-based physics in the planetary community and the MMS community are discussed are often disparate, yet unmeasured kinetic-scale processes are often invoked as playing an important role in the planetary systems. This presentation provides an overview of magnetic reconnection studies throughout the solar system, with particular emphasis on planetary magnetospheres, and revisits previous key results in light of MMS-era observations.
