Abstract
Magnetic reconnection is often thought to initiate in a small region and spread spatially as a function of time, starting as a micro-scale process and expanding to a macro-scale process. Here we investigate this cross-scale process through global numerical modeling as well as spacecraft and ground-based measurements. The investigation includes identifying a maximum spreading speed for magnetopause reconnection as well as a comparison of theoretical models with experimental results.
