The Starkeeper Sonata
Abstract/Description
The Starkeeper Sonata for trumpet and piano was written in the famous “Pluto Dome” at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ during the summer of 2019. It is essentially classical music, but also contains elements of jazz. This sonata was written utilizing cinematic scene form, meaning the music is like a soundtrack, but there is no movie. Instead, the music is meant to evoke scenes within the listeners mind. The music follows a science fiction story that Mr. Peacock wrote about a trip from Earth to the fiery pulsar star, Lich (PSR B1257+12), to meet with a benevolent being called the Starkeeper. This sonata is set to be premiered on April 1, 2020 by Professor Stephen Dunn at Northern Arizona University’s Kitt Recital Hall.
